Why you should visit the "Fossilia" museum
The Fossilia Fossil Museum Mölten is dedicated to preserving and presenting the geological treasures of our region. Our mission is to impart knowledge about the Earth’s history and promote interest in paleontology. We rely on sustainable practices and interactive experiences to combine education and environmental awareness.
The “Fossilia” museum presents the most important fossil finds from the area around Mölten.
There are only three sites in South Tyrol where plant fossils from the Upper (Late) Permian period have been discovered: the Bletterbach, the Seceda and Mölten. The Möltner finds are particularly unique, as they are the only fully preserved trees that can be recognized. Their structure – from the roots to the trunk to the branches – is exceptionally well preserved and offers valuable insights into the growth and development of prehistoric plants.
